Pope to address Endeavour Astronauts Tomorrow
VATICAN CITY, 20 MAY 2011 (VIS) - Tomorrow, Saturday 21 May, Benedict XVI will connect via satellite with the crew of the International Space Station (ISS) on the occasion of the space shuttle Endeavour's last mission.
The connection will take place at 1:11pm (Rome time). The Pope will particularly address the two European astronauts of Italian nationality, Paolo Nespoli and Roberto Vittori.
The event may be followed live on television as will as being streamed on the internet at the Vatican Radio-CTV site.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has told the Bundestag that pulling out of Afghanistan too soon could lead to a terrorist attack more devastating than 9/11.
As tributes were paid to to the 43 German soldiers who have been killed in Afghanistan, Merkel used her address to reiterate the importance of the German mission there and warned of the danger of extremists getting their hands on nuclear material.
“The international community has pledged to work together in Afghanistan, that can only be ended by mutual agreement. I am convinced that to do otherwise would have consequences far more devastating than the attacks of September 11, 2001,” she said.
Merkel’s address came as the German government recognised 14 US soldiers serving in Afghanistan for risking their lives to help German soldiers in a firefight with insurgents.
Her words were met with muted applause and several members of the lower house shouted dissent reflecting the unease felt by many Germans about the country’s involvement in another war.
