i'd like to change a world but i am running in a circle pit

nu ir kas,
bent jau mane tai tikrai BurnHollywoodBurn ikvepia for actions daug daugiau nei kokie Zizekai, nes kaip sako Zegota 'even if a world is about to end tomorrow, i would plant a tree today'. ta prasme, reikia koses galvoj, tai imho reik skaityt knygas, o reik ikvepimo, reik skaityt stai ka [bent jau man]. [norejos dar paie interviu zanra kaipo toki papizdelint, bet gal kazkada kitakart]

First of all can you please introduce yourself and the band to me and give us a brief history of the band!
We're Burn Hollywood Burn. We're from Rouen, France. We've been together since march or april 2000 I think. We released a demo tape late 2000 and sold 550 copies from wich 150 or 200 were shoplifted. One of our main goal as a band is to play a lot, just sharing our music and ideas with as many people as possible so since we started we've just been trying to do that as much as possible.

Why did you choose burn hollywood burn as the name for your band?
We wanted a name which sounded good and had a real meaning to us (which is what all bands probably want). Burn Hollywood Burn comes from a song from Public Enemy which is a band some of us used to really love when they were young black with gold chains. PE was one of the first band some of us listened to who were really political with a desire to fuck the status quo up. We also like the metaphor which basicaly means to us destroying a world in which we live through images and representations.

What is your motivation to play music?
Finding a way out of this world we think is fucked up and in the process trying to inspire people to come along.

Your music is full of emotion and passion. what affects you?
I think that our main influence is probably our daily life… love life regrets.

The lyrics of the MCD are very critical and personal, what is your inspiration?
Once again my daily life. What living in such a fucked up world makes me feel like. Some of my main influences are Henry Miller, Guy Debord, The Situationnist International, Marx, Sade, Baudrillard etc.

Your first MCD is released on Overcome Records, do you already get some reactions?
The feedback to the CD has been really good, we're really happy about it (the feedback). There are many things about the CD we think could have been done in a better way but I guess it's what happen every time you release something. But globally we're really happy about it. The 12" gatefold colored version is also available through http://www.emolution.fr.fm/

Who had the idea to put a photo of Marylin Monroe on your cover?
Actually the cover of the CD was the posters for a 60's movie called the misfits. We kept the same designs and changed some pictures. The Marylin Monroe pictures was on the original movie poster.

You are talking about change and free yourself but you don't want tobe associated with communists etc. Can you tell something about that?
We actually wrote that cynicaly because we really want to set ourselves appart from any kind of ideology. We are anarchists even though we reject the boring institutionalized almost ideological anarchism so often encountered these days.

Is there anything you believe in?
Ourselves and our own ability to build our own lives/adventures/world.

"For truth and beauty we fuck your world"?!
We don't think we can pursue truth or beauty in such an ugly and lying world without working on its destruction…

What do you think about vegan straight edge?
Some of us are vegan and or SxE, others are drunk hunters on sunday… Some of us need drugs and/or alcohol to bear this world… I guess that sometimes it feels good to blur it all just to be able to deal with the shit we take on a daily basis… We never blamed anyone for drinking or taking drunks neither have we criticized anyone for rejecting them. There's a consensus in the band. Everybody respects each others way to apprehend the world and their own insecurities. So Burn Hollywood Burn as en entity doesn't have any official opinion on that except the fact that those things cannot be separated from a bigger scale revolutionary goal.

What's your opinion of the modern society?
I guess we could write 10 books about that so it's pretty hard to explain clearly and deeply what we feel toward modern society. To put it in a nutshell, we feel that it brought many good things and many bad ones and we just want to be able to leave the bad one behind. While writing it I realize this is a fucked up explanation but I guess we should better recommand you to read the following books: Unabomber's Manifesto - Ted Kazinscky; Society of the Spectacle - Guy Debord; Ishmael - Daniel Quinn; George Orwell - 1984.

Do you got any future plans at the moment?
We will be touring eastern europe this summer, then we're touring northern europe this fall. Our MCD will be rereleased in chile and Lithuania. We're making new songs for a future record… and basically just try to play all the time, meet people, share ideas, have some fun and stay alive in a world that wants us dead.

Thanx for the interview. Last words?
Thanks a lot for giving us exposure on your site!!! We're sorry for the short answers to those questions which needed to be discussed more in depth but we have so many interviews to answer these days and so many more beautiful and exciting things to do out of our lives than sitting 8 hours a day in front of a computer which is basically what I'm doing since this morning :: If you're interested in us, our music, our ideas or whatever, feel free to come to our website: http://www.burnhollywoodburn.com/ or to contact us directly: burnhollywoodburn@hotmail.com
