In 2004 June I've made visa for going to belorussia for 20 euros and went to Minsk with Bora [www.bora.hardcore.lt] to see local show. Bora should play in Grodno too, but few days before the gig it occuried that local authorities closed the place and banned the upcoming event. as local activist dRAGGa [dragga@375crew.org] told me "alternative" clubs are running for one year in belorussia as max., because as he said "we live even in more "free" country than you do, god dem it". we've made the part from Vilnius to border quit fast, but then we've spent more than 3 hours waiting for nothing on the border. one of border officers didn't want to believe that PA system can cost so little (actually it didn't, because it is always helpfull to cut real prices of things you have when you go through customs). each of one was forced to show passport, visa, stand in front of a little window, so they could check your ID in they almighty computers, fill two forms claiming that we're not carrying weapons of mass destruction and so on. the driver had even more mess because of driver's licence, insurence, etc. when we finally got in belorussia, I fallen asleep. I woke up near Minsk city. Minsk appeared to be much like Warsaw, maybe there were more free space than in Warsaw. the city is planned, no oldtown there (it was bombed by nazis in II world war), but it is still quit nice in the downtown, because of hundreds torches of different colors everywhere. also, I've noticed 4 McDollar's while we went through the biggest street of Minsk. it was able to fit in even in so called by mass-media "socialism reservation". there is some truth in such tellings, because for instance the attribution of soviet time is partly kept alive there, even in the new buildings you can feel some presence of it, all political "nomenclature" goes skiing when president wants them to, etc. and from the inside the simple and ugly capitalism is taking everything over. just whatever president would announce like "our own way", he is not able to "not allow in" capitalism in his country. it all reminds Fidel's Castro yearly waving of guns in US direction. the only difference is that in cuba it all became a spectacle for long while (even US FBI are not trying to take out Castro anymore - he'll die soon himself and everything will "ok" there), and it is not so simple about belorussia - a "world society" is still afraid a little of "lukashenko land". on the other hand Lukashenko, while being not able to eat big fishes, eats russian NTV journalists, political oponents, who exist by west grants (and who are not truly causing any big problems, because most of they activities is considered about getting more grants (10.000 USD received - 2 demonstrations arranged - this is the way it works. it is work "for future" to create some "moral background" for upcoming EU restrictions to belorussia or maybe even US bombings, if "the mad king George" or any other politician will still run that country.) and at last Lukashenko also eats punk/hardcore scene activists, who besides had received two grants too - the local semi-anarchist, semi-bullshit newspaper called "Navinki" ("little news") did so. as one of the ex-correspondents of that paper said, one of the grants they used to release more numbers of that paper, then it became quit popular, so authorities banned newspaper and closed it's head-squatters. after that the other grant was just drunk out by newspaper workers. as the same correspondent said (while being sXe) - it was better than fake demonstrations, people had fun at last. in Minsk sometimes I felt being in "goodbye lenin!" film - when seeing monument for second world war veterans with soviet blazon in front of McDollar's or huge Coca-Cola banner on soviet type eating-house. people there seemed to be more "open and warm" than at home.
at last we got to NC club., the place of a show. the place was quit nice. a little room + WC on the first flour and a big hall, scene, dj and bar on second flour. club was buil-up quit interesting - with some metal things, pipes, submarine attributes . then we saw show poster - Bora and two more bands. Bora were called "vilnius metal hardcore heroes". we laught that belorussian are used to call everyone a "hero". Toro Bravo [www.hardcore.lt/torobravo]- antifa oi! heroes, Dr.Green [www.hardcore.lt/drgreen] - ska/punk heroes, even Splitface [www.splitface.hardcore.lt] in one local zine were described as "upcoming lithuanian scene heroes". while filling in equipment, we got to know that actually 4 more bands are going to play tonight. they were not mentioned on poster, because they had some fights with nazis, so everybody hold hope that nazis won't come if they are not mentioned. besides, most of such kind of shows are often attacked by nazis or/and cops/OMON/KGB - Toro Bravo show was cancelled, because of that (most of you probably had already heard of Ciubas adventures in Minsk), also Hero Dishonest [www.ifsociety.com/herodishonest] show and many other shows - the typical example would be anarcho-ecological "Zelionyj Shabash" ("Green Sabbat") fest - during the even OMON came and said they got message about a bomb in the place (nazis made that call), they took everyone out, and there some smoke grenades are thrown already, when people are running from cops through smoke, they face about 30 nazis with sticks and chains ready to beat them up. after that even everybody are openly speaking about cooperation of cops, OMON and "patriotical youth". poster said the show should start at 17.00, and it started at 18.00. first were Devil Shoot Devil [fdc@hardcore.lt] from Minsk with our buddy Danik on one vocal + girl on other vocal + two guitars + many melodies + simple, but sincere spoken words before songs - really good! on truth. it was nice, true and important. they played middle tempo melodic punk/hardcore with shouting/talking male vocal and singing/talking female one. lyrics - mass media, veganism, scene posers, straightedge, system, anarchism - it seems like "standart" issues, but it all was true, important and real on sure. besides, in our scene (nevermind, later about our scene). then second were locals Pull Out An Eye (ex-Rescue 811[http://rescue811.375crew.org]) - two male vocals (one was truly unreal - if you take fly buzzing and take it trough amplifier and get it all on high intense and sound level) fast, trashy hardcore, would be good mates to Hero Dishonest, Betercore [www.betercore.tk]. lyrics deals with state, borders, unity, friendship. third were Sandinista from Sankt-Petersburg (russia) - sound and vocal were "meat-like", hard, good metal sounds mixed with political/personal lyrics about "how we should made a good proportion between work and our lifes, goods and our lifes, power and our lifes". Egor and Julia making good russian zine "Voice" [http://voicehardcore.by.ru] are members of that band. guitarist had some problems with tuning his gun, but I still like them very much. it felt like Heaven Shall Burn[www.heavenshallburn.com]. the 4 band climbing on the scene were local Puls Vokrug ("puls around") - they played as local called it "mazafaka/rap with guitar". all was done right. maybe even too much right. lyrics about not so political, more personal, more 'easy' tahn others, but there's song against police brutality, also one of songs was written by Danik dealing with scene problems. they got biggest audience dancing (at all there were more than 200 people, half from punk/hc scene and different "alternative" youth), so Marka persuaded me to jump to the crowd when the "jump-da-fuck" moment will be there - we jumped, Marka of course was carried carefully, and I of course wasn't - hand hurted for all evening. fifth band were xJiHeartx. they played fucking great. hardcore with few slow comedowns and a bit of crust. Dasha's vocal sometimes reminds of some arias. spoken words were great too. she was all thrilling while speaking, you knew it is important and true. she said that maybe we'll meet american soldiers here, in belorussia, too, when Bush will take belorussia to "black list", she talked about how G8 in imhumanic way controls level of birthrate in "third world countries", about despair torching her from inside when she sees people so unwilling to take their lifes back, about "long forgotten revolution", and so on. it was amazing. sixth Bora came to play. I was left near distro, and I was watching it all from behind. Bora started to play, and the pogo began immediately. (belorussian opposite to us know how to dance, and they fucking dance!, belorussian opposite to our scene are more unite, belorussians opposite to us have less badges, but do more things, belorussians opposite to us are many sXe (!), belorussians opposite to us have few antifa crews (!) - RASH, SHARP and antifa hools. I mean of course I would mention some minuses and "bad stuff" considering this scene, after I would spent there more time, but as for first look I am mentioning how it is different from our one. Bora sounded beter thatn in Green Club, maybe they finally got it all together on the new equipment. Vladas was shouting loud and hard, but between songs I couldn't figure out even a title of a song... they played two songs, during third one sound operator turned off lights, two security men got on the scene, few locals came to me and said "hide distro! hide distro! because it will be confiscated!". so I did. it all happened because:
outside, near the entrance to club a car had arrived. few men in black came out and let out two nazis, who came near by and take up their right hand by nazi-greeting. so they got beated up by locals really fast. then men in black took one guy, who had hit nazis first and started to take him into the car. when other people surrounded them demanding to show documents, they showed guns. they got that guy into the car and tried to leave, but people blocked the car and called the police. when cops arrived, they talked to these men in black and they appeared to be KGBists.
everybody were taken out, only musicians left, quickly carrying equipment to their vans. organizers started to think where show should continue. nobody doubt that it need to be continued. there was even idea of a little open air with electro-power-generator, but finally it was decided to rent one apartament of local mates for 50 USD per night. we left to the place, taking drums by the way. then we got call from people who went to the centre of the city, they said that near by 20 nazis with sticks and chains wait for them, but when they saw about 150 people coming, they run out. the person calling, said that part of them is moving to the centre to fight nazis there. when we got to the place, it was two flour quit expensive building with porch, and bad electrical engineering in kitchen (if you had no boots, when trying to touch something, you always got little, but not so pleasant hit of electro-wave) . also even frontline and mixer was there. so it was really quit nice. the place used to be the point of acid-narco-gay parties. soon some people from centre came. they told that there was the biggest fight of the last year in the centre. it last about 15 minutes. 30 nazis+cops from one side and 50 punk/hc activists from another. local cafe street tables flew from one side to another and so on. he said that at last 3 punk/hc guys had been arrested (one of them was a bass-player of a band, that should play the last after Bora, so they didn't), few more last time were seen standing on the knees in front of OMON forces, and guy telling all this stuff said he was nearly to be caught too, but he used his tear gas spray to one of the OMONovists. he also told taht cops only pushed to sides and didn't arrest any of "patriotical youth". in the end of the fight there were about 15-20 nazis left, and they hide behind the cops, and didn't cause any problem. about 50 people came to place to continue show (half from club, half from centre after fight). Bora tuned up and started to play. they played quit nice, but sound wasn't so good. it was more after party/after fight show, so most of the people just set and watched them playing. but about 20 of them still managed to make circle pits in 2x2 place, to sinalong cover of Coalition, to take up Vladick and Krilaz [KABLYS@hardcore.lt] and create a really good atmosphere. after the show there was a tasty meal and sleepless night, because of communication, loud music, etc. Sergey Voloshin, from Moscow d.i.y. label Old School Kids [http://oskids.nm.ru] also was there and made few photos: http://photofile.ru/default/do?sp=&sn=&id=2005899&np=

during show in belorussia there were many people from abroad, who I communicate with, do things with, etc. - egor and Julia from russian "Voice" zine, Olia from Sankt-Petersburg [phdpunk@pisem.net], who published russian version of "Punk philosophy", Nastia from Sankt-Petersburg, Sergey from Moscow, Old Shcool Kids, Dima [rebel23@rambler.ru] from Novvopolock, all the great people from belorussia, so that gig became to me some kind of big "live" meeting + d.i.y. conference (what's up? how are you? how it is there? and how it is here?). next day we went to Dasha's place to take some food. after that poignant/emotional goodbye with tears and hopes and travell back home. Daliakas got a bit drunk, so he didn't shut up for whole way back, even on the customs he called one officer Piggy, but for hell sake, he didn't notice it. near Vilnius we stopped to go to swim in some lake. I didn't (after this all who had swimmed got ill). and then we came home.
all that day's evening I was thinking about time, we spent in belorussia. about their unity, their political active scene. about their openminded way of being, goodbye tears. about that they while being oppressed by lukashenko, nazis and state on on hand and capitalism, nazis and McDollar's on the other, still manage to resist, manage to create, be together. such things are giving passion to to something, to act, to live, to delete everything from hard disc that is less positive than old school hardcore. to read about RAF. to remember about 68. to think about society of spectacle. that I want to go there one more time, to hold their hands, to shout and cry together.

vargais negalais susiradome NC Kluba, koncerto vieta. pati vieta visai nieko. pirmame aukste kambariukas ir tulikai, antrame gana didele sale, scena, dj pultas ir baras. klubas apstatytas/apdarytas gana idomiai - visokiais gelzgaliais, vamzdziais, povandeniniu laivu atributais. primena BIX bara, tik visko kelis kart daugiau - vietos, gelzgaliu, zmoniu. ir jeigu BIX baras nepaliko ispudziu, bent teigiamu, tai NC klubas paliko. pamateme koncerto plakata - Bora ir dar dvi grupes. Bora pavadinti 'vilniaus metalizuoto hardcoro heroes'. juokemes, kad baltarusai visus vadina 'heroes'. + jei kazkas man duotu vietos, tai sudeciau ir daugiau nuotrauku is baltarusijos scenos, o taip pat juokinga Contra la Contra klipa. viso reikia apie 100 megu.
per koncerta baltarusijoje buvo daug zmoniu is kitu miestu, su kuriais palaikau rysi, susirasineju, etc. - Egoras ir Julia is Voice zino, Olia, isleidusi 'Panko filosofija', is Piterio, Nastia is Piterio, Sergejus is Old School Kids, Dima iz NovvoPolocko, todel man sis koncertas virto ir pazinciu vakaru (nes ne vieno nemaciau gyvai iki tol) ir mini konferencija (o kaip pas jus? o taip pas mus. o ka daryt? manau, kad stai ka.).

Objects of camp: for us important meet with activists from other
countries for experience exchange and possibility of common
projects\contacts. And we never had camp with women\feministic\gender
tematics.
Also energization belarusian women activists.

Number of participants about 70.
Living in tent camp, food from camp-fire, natural lavatory.

Now we have financional limit. But we promise food in camp and travel from
Minsk to camp, but we cann't promise reimbursement of travel cost :(( But
we try to find it, you can try too!!!
